Light of Christ programs
Through being employed by the Light of Christ Programs I have had the opportunity to experience a completely different environment.
- high socioeconomic status
- my own groups of students to look after
- responsibilities consisted of taking the students on field trips, plan arts and crafts, and resolve any conflict the kids might have
- Taking this role of being a leader has helped prepare me for any future experiences I might have in my own classroom.
St. Bernard's Mission School
Volunteering my time to go to St. Bernard's mission school was an opportunity I would not give back.
- small, rural school with a low socioeconomic status
- diverse cultural background
- classes ranged from three to fifteen
- plan a few outside activities for physical education
- Through this experience I learned that the level of engagement needed for the students to have the desire to learn may differ depending on their age.
Pride
Being employed at Pride has broadened my experiences as well; I have had many hours of engaging with kids with special needs.
- I give them the opportunity to have fun and learn in anyway I can provide for them, whether that may be with their daily life skills, social skills, or whatever they may need to improve on.
- I have also encountered kids who have experienced trauma; I have learned how to help them cope with these experiences and move past them in a healthy way.
- There are also times I help my clients out with school work and they also work on daily life skills by assisting me with my chores.
