English: NarrativesIn this fifth grade lesson students began creating a personal narrative after observing the thought processes one has during writing. This narrative focused on including key aspects of a narrative such as a beginning, middle, end, as well as a problem and solution.
Summative Assessment: As this was the end of the lesson I took their completed narratives as a grade for the summative assessment on this standard. |

English: Sensory detailsThis fifth grade language arts lesson was a hands on lesson where the students focused on describing objects in descriptive words geared toward the senses. The goal of the students was to get the reader to feel like they were truly in the writer's shoes through reading their work.
Summative Assessment: This lesson was also toward the end of the unit; the next day students had to write a new personal narrative about their cookie tasting experience and this was taken as a summative assessment. |
Math: AreaThis third grade lesson was a hands on lesson as well as a visual lesson where the students determined the area of a shape using tetronimoes. The goal of the lesson was to get students to understand area and use this concept to create their own shapes of different areas.
Formative Assessment: The students completed their unique shapes of different areas on a sheet of paper which I then gathered for a formative assessment. |

Science: HabitatsThis lesson plan for third graders was geared toward kinesthetic learners and it focused on the jungle habitat; the animals that live in it and what the jungle provides for them. The students had to think critically and creatively as to what these animals need from this habitat and eventually what they would need in order to survive in the jungle.

Social Studies: Map skills
Students in the third grade were encouraged to get deeply creative and artistic with making their own maps. The students were free to make any route to any destination they could think of as long as it was realistic.
Formative Assessment: The part of this map activity that I took as a formative assessment was the inclusion of the compass rose and the key as they had been working on this skill throughout the unit. |
